The Emblem

The emblem of the College consists of a circular petal design. The petals are of the Nelum flower (Nelumbo) seen in many oriental carvings and denotes purity. It is also significant that Saraswathi, the Goddess of Learning, is depicted seated on a Lotus. Inside the petal design is the mythical medicine pot. The earthenware pot is associated with water, the liquid that sustains all forms of life. Inside the pot are depicted the lamp of learning signifying the commitment for lifelong learning by physicians and the Staff of Asclepius, the symbol of the Greek god of healing and medicine. The Sanskrit motto reads as “Arogyam Shanthi Sukham”. This is closest to the “Cure Relief Comfort” of Hippocratic thought.
